Date Night at the Malted Meeple!

07/30/2019

It’s Friday night. You both have off work tomorrow. You know what that means… it’s date night!

The doors to possibility are wide open when we are talking date night in Northeast Ohio, but we like to consider ourselves a front runner when it comes to crafting a unique experience. With a board game library of 400+ board games, there are an abundance of games that will challenge couples to strategize and work together. There are also some that fuel a little friendly competition, so let’s look at some games in our board game library and learn a little bit more about them!

Onitama (15-20 minutes) is a two-player abstract strategy game that challenges players to think very carefully about every move they make! The general layout of this game mimics chess although it is not the pieces that determine how they can be placed, but it is the cards in your hand. The beauty of this game is not only in its design, but its replay-ability can easily make it a date night go-to. Onitama can be found in section F-2 at the Meeple.

Takenoko (30-45 minutes) is a perfect game for 2-4 players and features a very hungry panda as one of its main components. Players need to complete tasks such as cultivating land plots, irrigating them, and growing bamboo to be awarded points as the game proceeds. Takenoko is great for date nights because while it is not directly competitive, you still have to keep your wits about you in order to score the most points by the game’s end. Takenoko is located in section E-2.

Codenames (15-30 minutes) can be played with 2-8 players and is a perfect game for not only couples but for those on double dates. ‘Spymasters’ give out one-word clues that can point to multiple words on the board and it is up to your partner/team to figure out which words on the board score. This game promotes communications and encourages problem solving from both parties. At the Meeple, you will find Codenames, Codenames Disney, and Codenames Marvel in section B-3.

Spice things up by booking one of our two Escape Room Adventures while you’re at it! Use problem solving and creative thinking to work together and solve the mysteries of Area 53 or save the world from darkness in our wizardry themed room, Sorcerer’s Eclipse.  Treat yourselves afterwards with a Mega Milkshake or try a pint or two from our rotating craft beer selection. See you this Friday!
