We shine our brewery spotlight on a local favorite this month: HiHO Brewery out of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. Their mission to spread happiness, community, and craft by brewing quality beer and having a welcome, friendly environment for all to enjoy is parallel to our own mission here at the Malted Meeple.
Owners Jon and Ali Hovan grew up here in Hudson, OH. They spent 8 years in Denver, CO after college where they immersed themselves in the Colorado Craft Beer Boom. They embraced all aspects of craft brewing, learning as much as they could by volunteering at brew houses in their spare time and even founding The Brew Crew, a Denver based homebrew club.
After several years of expanding their knowledge and finding their passion was in brewing their own beers, they moved back to Ohio to start their own brew house. They pride themselves on brewing good, clean, stylistic beer using local ingredients and continually creating seasonal rotations and new flavors. Their core beers range from TouchDown Brown, an American Brown Ale, to the Bossy Lady IPA, an American style IPA named after Ali and her take-charge attitude.
Their commitment to family and community is evident in the name of their brewery, HiHO. With the last name Hovan, Jon’s nieces would call him “Uncle HO” and then shortened in a greeting “Hi, HO!” whenever they would get together. When it came time to name the brewery, it just made sense. They also support the building of community with lots of weekly and special events such as yoga, live music, and art classes, encouraging people to gather and try new artistic experiences.
We are pleased to shine a spotlight on HiHO in November. We currently have Cuyahoga Cream Ale Fermented on Blackberries. Stop on into the Meeple and ask your server about what other HiHO brews we have on tap!
