One of the things we are passionate about here at the Malted Meeple and Ravenwood Castle is craft beer. We pride ourselves on having an excellent assortment of craft beers for the enjoyment of our guests. In our new monthly blog feature, the Brewery Spotlight, we raise our pints to the men and women who dedicate themselves to the brewing craft.
This month, we raise our pints to our friends from Thirsty Dog Brewing, a well known local brewery based right here in Akron, Ohio. Their mission: Bringing a combination of full flavor, delicate balance, texture and aroma to make beer an infinitely complex and thoroughly enjoyable experience in every bottle, growler, or keg. That is the Thirsty Dog Way!
Thirsty Dog began brewing beer in 1997 at the Thirsty Dog Brewpub on Dressler Road in Canton, before transitioning to their current Akron based production facility. Now 140 dog years later (that’s 20 years for those keeping score at home) the brewery is returning to their brew pub roots and will soon be opening a new Thirsty Dog brew pub in the Flats in downtown Cleveland!
One of the best known Thirsty Dog beers is the “Old Leg Humper” Robust Porter. This was the first beer they ever bottled and is considered their flagship brew. It is a robust porter featuring well balanced notes of cocoa and dark-roasted barley in an approachable base. It has won two World Beer Cup Medals and is consistently one of their best-sellers. The company is also well known for its 12 Dogs of Christmas, an homage to the traditional Christmas flavors of cinnamon, honey, nutmeg and the like.
During the month of January, we will be proudly featuring some of Thirsty Dog Brewing’s most famous beers, including:
Old Choco Mint Chocolate Milk Stout – 5.5% ABV Milk Stout. Like an Andes Mint in a glass, Old Choco blends the smooth flavors of milk chocolate with a pop of fresh mint to both refresh and warm you through the coldest months of the year.
Citra Dog – 6.5% ABV 95 IBU American IPA. A bold, full-bodied IPA with bright tones of grapefruit and other citrus fruits with a slightly bitter punch. This is one of the Malted Meeple’s favorite IPAs. If you haven’t had it you are missing out!
Twisted Kilt – 5.3% ABV 13.5 IBU Scottish Export Ale Twisted Kilt gets its unique and distinct flavors from an extra-long and vigorous boil, providing a rich caramel tone to balance against the traditional barley and noble hops of Scottish beer.
Stop into The Malted Meeple or Ravenwood Castle throughout January to enjoy a fresh brew from Thirsty Dog!
