September Brewery Spotlight – Rogue Ales

09/19/2017

One of the things we are passionate about here at Ravenwood Castle and the Malted Meeple is craft beer. We pride ourselves on having an excellent assortment of craft beers for the enjoyment of our guests. In our new monthly blog feature, the Brewer’s Spotlight, we raise our pints to the men and women who dedicate themselves to the brewing craft.

This month, we raise our pints to our friends from Rogue Ales – a brewery named after and dedicated to all those who dare, risk, and dream!

Rogue Ales is based in Newport, Oregon and was founded in 1987 when some likeminded rogues came up with the idea to start their own brew pub. The Revolution began in the basement of the Rogue Public House in Ashland, Oregon. The first beers brewed by Rogue were American Amber and Oregon Golden. Both beers flowed freely, and soon Rogue began seeking a new location to spread the Revolution. One of Rogue’s founders wandered to Newport, Oregon searching for a location for their newest brewpub. A terrible snowstorm struck, stranding the founder and forcing him to seek shelter. He walked the streets until he stumbled upon Mohava Niemi, founder of Mo’s Restaurants. Mo extended her hospitality and welcomed him in from the cold with her famous clam chowder. Over that bowl of chowder, she shared her dream of living above a bar and described the perfect spot for the next Rogue Ales Brew Pub.  It just so happened that she owned a large building that would support the new location. It was a perfect match. So began the story of Rogue Ales!

Today Rogue Ales expresses themselves by brewing the finest ales and sprits in the world. For Rogue Ales, the spirit of their brand encourages them to do things differently, to challenge the status quo, and to brew outside the box. You can be sure that each beer with the Rogue Ales label will be filled with its own unique character and innovative twist. A few of their most famous brews include: Dead Guy Ale (a German Maibock), Hazelnut Brown Nectar (a Brown Ale), and 6 Hop IPA (a Traditional Revolutionary IPA).

One thing that sets Rogue Ales apart from other breweries are the principles that they have developed over nearly thirty years in the craft beer industry. Taken together, these principles have been dubbed “The Rogue Way.” Utilizing these principles has allowed Rogue to become an innovator in the craft beer industry and allows them to operate with precision and character.

  • Rule #1: Listen Generously
  • Rule #2: Speak Straight
  • Rule #3: Be There for Each Other
  • Rule #4: Honor Commitments
  • Rule #5: Give Acknowledgement & Appreciation

To Rogue Ales, business is not simply a matter of profit, but a work of art to be admired. For Rogue, being the best means working with the best, whether it be hops, malts, yeast, or people. They strive to build relationships, not just ales. They are dedicated to the Rogue in all of us.

The Malted Meeple is proud to announce that we have gone rogue, and are now officially a Rogue Nation Ambassador Bar! Throughout the month of September and beyond we will be proudly featuring Dead Guy Ale on draft and several Rogue brews in the cooler. We have also added a brand new shake to our lineup, the Frozen Dead Guy, a dark chocolate shake made with Rogue’s flagship ale!

Make your way to The Malted Meeple and enjoy some delicious brews from our friends at Rogue Ales!
