One of the things we like to do here at the Malted Meeple is give some extra attention to our favorite board game publishers and designers. In our monthly Publisher’s Spotlight we provide a bit of a background on the publisher, discuss a few of their games, and may even announce a visit to The Meeple by some of the publisher’s representatives!
Summer is finally here, and for many of our guests that means vacations, cold drinks, time spent catching up with friends and family over board games, and nights out on the patio. For the folks here at Ravenwood Castle and The Malted Meeple, summer means convention season! This month we shine our Spotlight on SlugFest Games, a graet publisher which also happens to be our Guest of Honor at Con in the Castle 2016!
SlugFest Games was founded in 2002 by Cliff Bohm. Bohm ran the company until passing the torch to the current president in 2014. Although no longer directly involved in the company, Bohm still offers advice and consultation due to his many years at the helm. Jeff Morrow, the current president, handles a bit of everything, from conception, playtesting, and rules crafting, to graphic layout and design.
The mission of SlugFest Games is to provide “good clean fun that is dripping with theme.” They love to incorporate humorous theme with well-crafted game mechanics. We can say from experience that their games are easy to teach, while still offering deep strategy that keeps players coming back for more!
Red Dragon Inn and its expansions form the flagship title of SlugFest Games. In Red Dragon Inn, players take on the role of fantasy adventurers who have just returned from raiding a dungeon. Now that they are back at the Inn, it is time to enjoy some hard drinking, shrewd gambling, and good-natured roughhousing. Players will take turns until one player remains conscious, sober, and with a good amount of their coin left!
The latest title from SlugFest Games is The Red Dragon Inn: Battle for Greyport. In this cooperative deckbuilding game, players must protect the city of Greyport, and the famous Red Dragon Inn. Players will need to work together to face down the threat and save the town. Each encounter brings players to a new location in the city and closer to facing down the villains. Guests who will be attending Con in the Castle July 15-17 will be among the first to give this new game a try!
Next time you visit The Malted Meeple or Ravenwood Castle, ask for a copy of Red Dragon Inn, grab a cold drink, and prepare for adventure!
Karington Hess is a lifelong gamer whose passions for hospitality and all things game-related led him to Ravenwood Castle, where he served as an Innkeeper before joining The Malted Meeple. When not pouring beers, crafting milkshakes, or teaching boardgames, Karington can be found behind the DM’s screen, weaving intricate stories for his fellow gamers.
