August Publisher’s Spotlight – Rather Dashing Games

08/4/2015

One of the things we like to do here at the Malted Meeple is give some extra attention to our favorite board game publishers and designers. In our monthly Publisher’s Spotlight we provide a bit of a background on the publisher, discuss a few of their games, and may even announce a visit to The Meeple by some of the publisher’s representatives!

The Malted Meeple presents August’s Publisher’s Spotlight, Rather Dashing Games!

Rather Dashing Games began as a discussion around a campfire between life-long friends Mike Richie and Grant Wilson, who decided to combine their talents to make quality, family games that are – in their words – “rather dashing”.

Rather Dashing Games is perhaps best known for their popular game Pirates, Ninjas, Robots & Zombies. Introduced last year, this tactical tile laying title gives players an opportunity to settle the age old question: Who would win in a face-off between pirates, ninjas, robots, or zombies?

The group’s other games include: Red Hot Silly Peppers – a set collection game in which players compete to make salsa; Four Taverns – a hand management game in which players take on the role of tavern owners; and Dwarven Miner – a hand management game in which players become dwarven craftsmen out to gather resources and fulfill patron’s orders.

Richie and Wilson are more than just game designers however. The duo has also written a book (Brotherhood of the Strange), and Wilson is an accomplished musician. If Grant Wilson’s name in particular sounds familiar it’s not surprising. He is after all the cofounder and star of the hit SyFy show “Ghost Hunters”.

Rather Dashing capitalizes on that last bit in their upcoming game, Graveyards, Ghosts & Haunted Houses, the sequel to their popular tile laying game Pirates, Ninjas, Robots & Zombies. While the mechanics that made its predecessor so much fun are certainly present, Graveyards introduces a few unique twists, including tokens such as the Gravestone, Paranormal Investigator, and Meddling Kids, which can block, deduct or add to point values.

We here at the Malted Meeple are really excited about the imminent release of Graveyards, Ghosts & Haunted Houses. Not just because it’s a great game, but also because Rather Dashing Games will be launching it at an exclusive Release Party at Ravenwood Castle in early September!

So join Mike Richie, Grant Wilson and our extended Ravenwood Castle family September 4th & 5th for a weekend of Gaming & Ghost Hunting!

In the meantime, be sure to try a game of Dwarven Miner, Four Taverns, or Pirates, Ninjas, Robots & Zombies on your next trip to The Malted Meeple. Or check out an advance copy of Graveyards, Ghosts & Haunted Houses!

After spending 20 years in the corporate world, he decided it was high time that work be fun and struck out on his own.
