May Publisher’s Spotlight

05/2/2017

One of the things we like to do here at the Malted Meeple is give some extra attention to our favorite board game publishers and designers. In our monthly Publisher’s Spotlight we provide a bit of background on the publisher, discuss a few of their games, and may even announce a visit to The Meeple by some of the publisher’s representatives!

This month we are proud to shine our Publisher’s Spotlight on our friends from Queen Games!

A German based publisher, Queen Games was founded in 1992 by Rajive Gupta.  Queen Games produces a variety of board games; their portfolio includes everything from simple children’s games to complex games and everything in between, including games designed with families in mind. Their high quality production and a commitment to development allows them to deliver games that not only look good on the table, but feel great through fun game play. Queen Games aims to create unique games that invite everyone to play! This approach to game publication is reflected in their mission statement, “Connecting Generations”.

Queen Games began as Queens Carroms and began specializing in a classical game from India called Carrom or “Finger Billards.” In Carrom, the central red coin is known as the “Queen.” Soon, Queens Carroms became Queen Games as it made the transition to the international market. Their games are distributed worldwide and are published in several languages including English, French, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, and German.

The company is no stranger to fame as two of their games have won the prestigious Spiel Des Jahres. First ,the much beloved tile-laying game Alhambra in 2003.Then, their second win came in 2012 with Kingdom Builder, a game by award winning designer Donald X. Vaccarino, the father of Dominion. We are proud to have both Alhambra and Kingdom Builder as permanent members of the Malted Meeple Library.  Many other Queen Games titles have been nominated for awards as well: Fresco, Lancaster, Push a Monster, Thebes, Thief of Bagdad, Buccaneer, and Aqua Romana to name just a few. In addition to their award winning line up are many fan favorites, including Escape: The Curse of the Temple, Shogun, and Amerigo.

Queen Games has some great upcoming titles as well. Templar’s Journey is slated to release at Origins 2017, while Immortals is slated to release at Gen Con 2017. Immortals brings together two Legendary designers, Dirk Henn (Alhambra & Shogun) and Mike Elliot (Lost Legends, Thunderstone, and Quarriors). The result is an amazing game focused on an eternal struggle in which the warriors never truly die! Be on the lookout for Immortals and Templar’s Journey coming soon from Queen Games!

We are also proud to announce that Queen Games will be visiting The Malted Meeple! Travis Reynolds from Queen Games will be on hand May 12th and 13th to demo several of the games in Queen Games family. Full details can be found on our calendar and Meetup page.

So join us at the Malted Meeple next weekend and give Travis and Queen Games a warm Malted Meeple welcome! And be sure to ask your Game Master for their favorite title from Queen Games the next time you visit the Malted Meeple!
