Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update #2

Jim Reed   |   03/18/2020

Dear Malted Meeple Guests,

I apologize for adding yet one more COVID-19 email to your inbox. It seems that coronavirus related updates are all we are seeing of late. Unfortunately, I do feel it is important to share one more update with you as it relates to the Malted Meeple and our current operations.

As you know from our previous update, we have already taken the step of closing the board game café side of our business. We had originally intended to continue operating our escape rooms, as we felt the risk inherent in such small group activities was fairly minimal. While we still believe that to be the case, we have decided out of an abundance of caution to eliminate even that level of risk.

As of today, The Malted Meeple will be ceasing operations entirely for the immediate future. We have taken all escape room bookings offline for the period from now until April 15th.

I would like to personally thank all of our guests and business partners who have expressed their support for the Meeple during this trying time. We greatly appreciate your kind thoughts and words, and want you to know that we are thinking of all of you as well.

Many of you have asked how you can financially support the business and staff as we work through this closure. At this point we have two methods for doing so. The first is by booking future escape room sessions. While bookings are not available during the window I mentioned above, both Area 53 and Sorcerer’s Eclipse are available for reservations after April 15th. Should the current closure extend beyond that date, we will reach out to you personally to reschedule.

Secondly, we have enabled the purchase of online gift vouchers through our escape room system. You can find them in a variety of denominations at https://bookeo.com/maltedmeeple/buyvoucher

These vouchers were originally intended and specifically designed for use when booking our escape rooms. We have a workaround for that, and have included additional redemption instructions with each voucher, explaining how to bring them into the Meeple once we reopen and convert them into general purpose Malted Meeple gift cards.

We will continue to monitor the developing situation, and will provide additional details as we have them. Hopefully, the next update we provide will be that we are back up and running for normal operations. In the meantime, please exercise good common sense, keep yourselves and your loved ones safe, and we will see you all on the other side.
