Escape Room 101

Have a group of friends coming in from out of town and don’t know what to do?

Are your nights being packed full of the same things week after week?

Sick of always going bowling or to the movies?

Looking for some more ADVENTURE?

Then look no further! Earlier this year The Malted Meeple installed two premium escape rooms right here in our downtown Hudson location. We are now home to Area 53 and Sorcerer’s Eclipse – one-hour themed escape rooms that encourage you not just to escape, but to adventure! You may be curious about what an escape room entails, more details about what we offer, and how to book your own adventure. Keep reading because this week’s blog on Meeple Moments will cover all those questions and more.

The concept of an escape room has been around for over a decade, but just started gaining traction in the past few years.  It is believed that live escape rooms were inspired by a videogame created in 2004 by Toshimitsu Takagi called “Crimson Room”. Players got to feel like they were truly part of the game when this concept was brought to life around 2007. Nowadays, those who feel up to the challenge are placed in a room where they must solve various puzzles and “escape” before time runs out. The idea behind this is to work together as team to discover the clues, solve puzzles, and accomplish specific tasks. There are many different escape room themes and each room can have a different goal. Oftentimes, players are faced with puzzles and riddles that make them think outside the box, so make sure to bring your thinking caps.

Here at the Meeple, both of our rooms have a one-hour time limit. In our sci-fi themed room, Area 53, players find themselves in a highly secretive base on a mission to recover Case File X. You and your group of investigators are tasked with solving clues and working together to successfully reveal the truth. Prefer fantasy over sci-fi? In our wizardy themed Sorcerer’s Eclipse room you and your fellow apprentices must stop an evil sorcerer from casting the world into darkness… forever! Work together to find the ancient crystal and stop the Scarlet Raven before it is too late!

Our Escape Rooms are designed for up to 8 players. We suggest children under 12 be accompanied by an adult. Start your adventure today, and book online!
