Kids Games at the Meeple

With over 400 board games in our library, it can sometimes be a little daunting deciding what to play. Whether you’re a regular or a first time visitor, we here at the Meeple want to make sure you find the perfect game for the night – or a new favorite! We organize our library not only by difficulty, but by type. On the far-right side of our wall-o-games, you’ll find a shelf of kid-friendly games. This week on Meeple Moments we are spotlighting three of our most popular games that are not only easy to learn, but great for a family night out!

Crossing – ages 8+, 15 minutes, 3-6 players

Gather the kiddos and jump into the world of Spamootail! This is a kingdom where humans, pixies, goblins, and fairies alike all live together in perfect harmony. In Crossing, each player will choose a character tile and put it in front of them. Then, mushroom tiles are distributed in front of all the players (depending on player count, the mushroom count will vary). There is a bag that will house all of the “life stones” – different colored gems that are placed on mushroom tiles throughout the game. To begin, you will place two gems on each mushroom tile. The players will all count to three and on three, they simultaneously point at a mushroom tile of their choice. If a player is the ONLY one to point at that specific mushroom tile, they take all of the life stones and put them on their character tile. If two or more players point, nothing happens! On the second turn, there is a new option for players. Instead of just pointing to a mushroom tile, they can point at a player’s character tile and steal their gems.

Monster Mash – ages 6+, 10 minutes, 2-6 players

This quirky-looking game is a game of speed with some added fun – more than one player can score points every round! Take 10 Monster cards from the deck and place them face up in between all the players. A player will roll two dice – one with a number on it and one with a body part on it (eyes, legs, arms) – and players will then have to put their finger on a picture of a Monster card that includes what is on the dice (1 leg, 3 arms, 2 eyes). Seems easy enough, right? Well, at the bottom right hand corner of each Monster card there are images of donuts (1, 2, or 3) that are added up at the end of the game as well – point quickly, wisely, and watch those donuts!

Blurble – ages 8+, 15 minutes, 4-8 players

This hilarious party game is fun for the entire family and will be sure to have everyone laughing in just a few minutes! The game? Flip over a card and be the first person to say something that starts with the same first letter of the image on the card. Yeah, we know, it sounds easy, but trust us when we say it’s a lot harder than you’d think!

Pro tip: ask our staff members about how they play Blurble, we just might have a secret version we like to play here at the Meeple!
