Sweetest Day at the Malted Meeple – Oct 19th!

Come celebrate Sweetest Day at the Malted Meeple! Before we get into our special Sweetest Day deal, did you happen to know where the “holiday” originated?

October is host to some interesting holidays. You may see things like International Coffee Day, National Taco Day, Canadian Thanksgiving, National Pasta Day, and Halloween gracing the pages of your calendars. A little more locally though, in the Midwest, you’ll have the added pleasure of seeing Sweetest Day celebrated on the third Saturday of the month.

First celebrated on October 10th, 1921 in Cleveland, Ohio, Sweetest Day was created by a local committee of candy makers and was originally called “The Sweetest Day of the Year.” The goal of the 12 confectioners was to hand out 20,000 boxes of candy to the elderly and less fortunate. They wanted to bring joy to those the Chairman of the Committee, C. C. Hartzell, felt were being neglected by the city. They were aided in their efforts by some of the biggest film stars of the time, who joined them to pass out the sweet treats.

Today, while it may seem more commercial than its humble beginnings, Sweetest Day focuses not just on your love for your romantic partner, but for friends and family as well.  There are many ways to celebrate Sweetest Day, from gifting cards and chocolates to those you care about, to simply spending time with your loved ones.

Come celebrate Sweetest Day with us at the Malted Meeple on Saturday October 19th and we’ll treat you to 50% off any Mega Milkshake (for yourself or to share!) and we can teach you to play some of our favorite board games from our 400+ game library. We’d love to share Sweetest Day with you and your friends, family, or significant other!
