February’s Publisher Spotlight – Cryptozoic Entertainment

Cryptozoic Logo

One of the things we like to do here at the Malted Meeple is give some extra attention to our favorite board game publishers and designers. In our monthly Publisher’s Spotlight we provide a bit of background on the publisher, discuss a few of their games, and may even announce a visit to The Meeple by some of the publisher’s representatives! This month we are proud to shine our Publisher’s Spotlight on our friends from Cryptozoic Entertainment! The company, founded in 2010 by Cory Jones, Scott Gaeta, John Nee, and John Sepenuk, specializes in producing original and licensed board and card games.  Many of these games feature fan-favorite franchises, including: the DC Comics Deck-Building Game, The Walking Dead Board Game, and Ghostbusters: The Board Game.…

February Game of the Month – Batman Almost Got ‘Im

Batman AG Game

The Game of the Month series highlights one of the many games in our libraries at Ravenwood Castle and The Malted Meeple. We will briefly describe the game, how to play it, and why we like it. February’s Game of the Month, Batman: The Animated Series Almost Got ‘Im, comes from our friends at Cryptozoic Entertainment. In Almost Got ‘Im, the infamous faces from Batman’s rogues gallery have gathered to play a not-so-friendly game of poker. As they do so, the villains swap stories about their run-ins with the caped crusader, and the time they ‘Almost Got ‘Im.’ But none of them suspect that Gotham’s Dark Knight has infiltrated the poker game under the guise of one of the villains. Will the villains emerge triumphant…

February Milkshake Madness

Milkshake Flight

January is at its end, as is our 80’s Movie themed milkshake madness competition. Three great shakes entered the arena: The Shakinator, Shake to the Future, and Shakebusters. But as we learned in the Highlander, there can be only one. The black cherry flavored Shakinator has emerged victorious, eliminating its competitors and clearing the way to become February’s Milkshake of the Month. February’s Milkshake Madness competition ushers in a new theme: Batman villains! There’s no need to dance with the devil in the pale moonlight to enjoy these new shakes, just stop in throughout February for a taste of the Riddler (Candy Apple & Caramel), the Joker (Blue Raspberry and Cherry) and the Harley Quinn (Cinnamon Hearts and Milk Chocolate). Don’t forget to vote for your…

Launching Soon – Brand New Call of Cthulhu Campaign!

Call of Cthulhu

We run a lot of different role playing systems at The Malted Meeple, and within those systems a wide variety of story lines. Some of these are stand alone “one off” stories, while others form part of a larger story arc or campaign. Perhaps the best of these long form campaign style games come not from published materials, but straight from the delightfully twisted minds of our Game Masters. Here to announce the newest challenge available to Meeple players is guest blogger and our very own Call of Cthulhu Keeper and Dungeon Meeple, Tyler Hudak. One of the greatest aspects of tabletop roleplaying is the campaign. In a campaign, the player characters (PCs) embark on an adventure of a grand and epic scale, the success or failure of which…

January Publisher’s Spotlight – Asmodee

Asmodee Logo

One of the things we like to do here at the Malted Meeple is give some extra attention to our favorite board game publishers and designers. In our monthly Publisher’s Spotlight we provide a bit of background on the publisher, discuss a few of their games, and may even announce a visit to The Meeple by some of the publisher’s representatives! This month, we shine our Publisher’s Spotlight on a true titan of the gaming industry: Asmodee! While the company still produces its own games, they also distribute many familiar titles across the globe. Few companies touch as many corners of the globe as Asmodee. Headquartered in Guyancourt, France, Asmodee currently publishes and distributes board games in Europe, North America, and China. Asmodee Games was…
