In February we shine our Publisher’s Spotlight on our friends from CMON! Famous for their well-known Zombicide series, this globe spanning company currently has offices in the United States, Brazil, Canada, and even Singapore!
CMON began in 2001 as CoolMiniOrNot.com, a community site for hobbyists to submit pictures of miniatures to be rated by their peers. In fact, this site that started it all still exists today.
In 2011, CoolMiniOrNot entered the board game market with the goal of creating games with high quality miniatures and engaging, fun mechanics. Their first game was Zombicide, which launched on Kickstarter on April 6th, 2012 to great success. Since then, the company has run 29 successful Kickstarter campaigns, all with the help of their loyal fan base. As the company continued its ascent, it began bringing a lot of great games directly to the retail market. This drive is reflected in the company’s mission, to strive to make and help bring to market high-quality games for a wide range of people.
In August of 2016, the company officially rebranded their board game division to CMON, an abbreviation of CoolMiniOrNot.com. The rebranding came about as a way to communicate that while they are still the leading company in high-quality board game miniatures, they also have a lot of other great games. They strive to offer their customers the highest-quality gaming experience around, be it through their industry- leading miniatures or unique game-play.
While the company is best known for its much loved Zombicide series, their other games run the gamut from modern to fantasy themes. Some of their most famous titles include: Arcadia Quest, Blood Rage, The Grizzled, and several licensed games such as The Godfather: Corleone’s Empire, and the upcoming A Song of Ice & Fire: Table Top Miniatures Game.
Perhaps the most anticipated of CMON’s current game lineup is Rising Sun, a game about honor, negotiation, and warfare in a feudal Japan where the ancient gods (kami) have returned to rebuild the empire. Rising Sun claims Diplomacy as its distant ancestor. Tackle negotiations, alliances, and war. Capture hostages and commit seppuku. The game features an honor track, in which you can rise and fall based on your behavior.
